The Ethereum merger was finally completed. It was said at the beginning of the year. Now, finally, graphics card mining will become history. After the Ethereum merger, why can’t graphics cards make money from mining? Ethereum has switched from PoW to PoS mode. It doesn’t matter if you don’t understand this change. Simply put, you can make money from mining before, but it will not work after the merger.
But for miners, this merger is the end of the world. Although some people did not give up and made an ETHW fork that can continue to mine, it cannot shake the mainstream, and graphics card mining is really dead this time. The most direct consequence is that the daily income of graphics card mining will return to zero, and it will even lose money after taking into account the electricity bill.
The graphics card mining income statement summarized by the network shows that currently the main ones with positive mining income are RX 6800 and RX 6800 XT, but it is only $0.11 per day, while the RTX 3060 and RTX 3080 graphics cards that were popular in mining before are Negative returns, even if you lose only a few cents a day.
What’s next? Unless a miracle is born, and then a new currency that can be mined and made money comes out, there is almost no other way for miners to go, and the only option is to regenerate the second-hand graphics card as much as possible.
However, considering that the price of graphics cards has fallen below the recommended price, the consequence of a large number of mining cards rushing into the market is to further lower the price, resulting in no one interested in high-priced graphics cards, forcing manufacturers to cut prices, which is also AMD, NVIDIA and a number of graphics card manufacturers. Unwilling to see the situation, the price reduction will not only affect revenue and profits, but also create conflicts between AMD/NVIDIA and graphics card manufacturers. After all, who will bear the cost of price reduction is a big problem.
